The Competition Pro Series Die Set (designed for progressive machines) for straight walled rifle cartridges and handgun rounds with a shoulder have a steel sizing die but does not include an expander die because most popular progressive machines expand the case mouth at the powder drop station.
The steel sizer die does require the use of case when sizing cases.
The Redding Competition Seating die for straight wall rifle cartridges and handgun cartridges features a unique way to bias the bullet into alignment with the cartridge case. The precision fitting, spring loaded seating stem is allowed to move down into the chamber of the die, aligning the bullet and cartridge case well in advance of bullet seating. Precise alignment is then maintained as the bullet and cartridge case move upward until seating is accomplished. This Patented System assures you of the best possible bullet alignment. The die's micrometer is calibrated in .001” increments to simplify setting and recording bullet seating depth. Switching bullets and experimentation has never been easier. The Competition Seating Die does not have the ability to crimp the cartridge case.
The best possible handloads can be attained by crimping after the bullet has been seated in place. Depending on the application (cartridge) the appropriate crimp die is provided. Straight walled rifle cartridges have a profile (roll) crimp die supplied as do revolver cartridges. Auto loading cartridges, for the most part headspace off the case mouth, have taper crimp die provided in the set.
