Type S Match Full Length Die Set comes with a Type S Full Length Size Die (bushings sold separately) and Competition Seating Die. The Type S Full Length Sizer Die requires the use of neck bushings. You will need to purchase the bushing separately. We carry the Redding Titanium Coated Bushings, and we carry Forster Steel Neck Bushings which will work with the Redding Type S Sizing Die and Competition Neck Size Die, too.
To determine bushing size……
Neck wall thickness varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Depending on your reloading project, you may need a range of bushings if you are reloading with different brands of brass. The two ways to determine bushing size are explained below.
With the use of a ball micrometer, you will measure the neck wall thickness of several cases from brass lot you are working with. With your data, you calculate the average neck wall thickness. Then take the average neck wall thickness and double it and add the bullet diameter and record that number. An alternative way is to take a dial caliper and measure the case neck of at least 5 loaded cartridges. Then, calculate the average of your measurements and record that number.
Now, using either one of your measurements you can determine what bushing size to purchase.
Redding suggested bushing size assessment:
The subtraction of 0.001” from the measurement if you are loading ammunition into the chamber without running it through a magazine of a bolt action gun or semi auto gun with a single shot adapter in the magazine.
The subtraction of 0.002” from the measurement if you are loading ammunition into the chamber running it through a magazine of bolt action gun.
The subtraction of 0.003” from the measurement if you are loading ammunition into the chamber running it through a magazine of semi auto gun.
