This book stands as proof of the old adage that "It is an ill wind that blows no good", in that it came about due to the passing of a larger-than-life personage who, among many other passions and pastimes, had amassed one of the world's largest and finest collections of Colt New Service revolvers. After the untimely death of William Powell in 2007 at the age of 56, the bulk of his collection was put up for auction. Bill's executor, St. Louis author and attorney Timothy Mullin, realized that this world would result in the collection being scattered all over the world, never again to be seen and appreciated a single impressive aggregation. Tim decided that before this happened a record should be preserved to showcase the collection as it had existed during Bill's lifetime, and he persuaded the Rock Island Auction Company, his choice of venue for the Powell Estate auction, to provide a duplicate set of the fine color images they were preparing for use in the auction catalog.
