From Berger Website
Extreme Long Range shooting (ELR) to distances of two miles and beyond has taken the firearms community by storm. With many of its roots developed from Elite Military Sniper and Special Forces rifle training exercises, ELR enthusiasts are utilizing cutting-edge rifle and ammunition technology to engage targets at distances previously unheard of. As with all other long-range rifle disciplines, Berger has taken the lead with pioneering ELR as well. New Berger ELR Match Solid Projectiles, a brainchild of Berger?s chief ballistician, Bryan Litz, are precision lathe-turned solid copper bullets with an optimized VLD ogive design for extreme long-range accuracy.

First and foremost all Berger Bullets are Match grade. Berger mates J4 bullet jackets with lead core to produce some of the highest quality bullets in the world. Berger line of flat based bullets are for two purposes, Varmint Hunting and Short Range Precision Target Sports. The ability for a bullet maker to produce very accurate flat base bullets is a significant indicator of how focused that bullet maker is on consistency. Flat base bullets are the easiest to make consistent since flat is always flat. The vast majority of flat base bullets are made with a tangent ogive which is easier to produce than the secant ogive. The tangent ogive is also easier than a secant ogive to make shoot well. A tangent ogive of the same length as a secant ogive will not perform as well in the wind however these bullets are used primarily for 300 yards or less so this is of little concern. Simple construction leads to consistent manufacturing of Match Grade Bullets for the reloader.
