New At SHOT Show 2015 - 25-45 Sharps for the AR-15 Platform

The AR-15 is affectionately called “America's rifle,” and for good reason: Over 10 million have been sold in the US alone. The rifle’s design lends itself very well to customizations which is why competitors, hobbyists, and hunters have adopted it in droves.

For the hunter, however, the standard chambering of the .223 Remington leaves a lot to be desired. The .22 caliber bullet is far too small for larger game, the common 55 grain bullets don’t deflect wind well, and many states even ban hunting with anything smaller than a .24 caliber.

Enter the 25-45 Sharps, a .223 case necked up to accommodate a .25 caliber bullet. The standard 87 grain bullets travel at almost 3,000 feet per second and carry enough energy to the target for hunting most North American game and varmints. The ballistic coefficient on the 87 grain bullets is phenomenal, delivering a lot of accuracy and performance for a .25 caliber. Some reloaders are also using 60 and 62 grain bullets for target shooting.

At SHOT Show 2015, Sharps Rifle Company released a new line of AR bolts and barrels designed to bring this powerful cartridge to the AR platform. The new Reli-Bolt AR-15 bolt carrier groups are a modernized version of the original design, with many improvements to increase reliability and get the most out of the 25-45 Sharps round.
