Powder and Primer Observations

Where is all the powder and primers?

We do not have an answer to that question. We are 3 years into pandemic and incidents of social unrest.

Our observations of the market.

Primers are being imported from Europe and South America. Brands such as Fiocchi, Ginex , Mag Tech, Seller & Bellot, Cheddite Shotgun, and Servicios Aventuras appearing regularly now, especially in small pistol.

Our home grown brands Remington, Federal, CCI, and Winchester are sort of hit and miss to say the very least. A lot of non-traditional vendors seem to have primers and yet the household name vendors do not consistently have any. The upside is that primer prices have trended down in the last 4 to 5 months. One non-traditional vendor has dropped their price per 1000 from nearly $130 per 1000 to in the range of $80 to $90 per 1000 for standard small pistol and small rifle.

Gun Powder is getting better. The supply is nowhere near normal. In demand powders like Trail Boss for example not been available for2+ years. Some other powders like Retumbo, Universal Clays, Clays International, Clays, the Enduron line of powders from IMR. Hodgdon flip flopped on the Enduron line saying it was being discontinued to saying they meant to say it was temporarily unavailable.
